Welcome to the Wii Health Zone.
This site is dedicated to updating you on all of the latest Wii Health and Wii Fitness news, as well as giving you practical hints and tips to truly get fit with your Nintendo Wii. Our aim is to provide you with really useful information about how to get the most out of your Wii investment. We want to help you realise your goals in regards to health, fitness, wellbeing, and of course gaming fun!
Whilst video games are intrinsically all about entertainment, there is a serious side to our cause. To illustrate, I want to share a bit of my story with you.
In June 2008 I was diagnosed with BPPV (Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo). This condition is an inner ear imbalance that can present symptoms such as nausea, headaches, dizziness and so forth. It has been likened to by myself and others as a sea sickness sensation that can last for several days at a time.
My physio therapist, who has been guiding me through an exercise program to re align the inner ear structure, was the first person to introduce me to the Nintendo Wii Fit. In her professional opinion, she has seen other patients benefit from using the games console to improve their balance, and she knows it to be a fun approach to exercises that can otherwise be repetitive and difficult to maintain.
The Wii Fit and Balance Board have transformed the way that I can exercise and achieve goals towards improving my health.
My experiences of working in the Special Education Needs sector and in elderly care have led me to believe passionately that the Nintendo Wii can make a positive difference for individuals of all ages and capabilities, for the able bodied and for people with varying disabilities.
The Wii Health Zone’s goal is to help you reach your goals towards becoming a more healthy you. Whilst the Nintendo Wii can not be the answer to all of our health needs, it is definitely a great place to start, and can be incorporated into your everyday life now and for the future. Here’s to your health!
